AEDD Children's Learning Center is now accepting applications for a full-time Certified Teacher. Working with children with Developmental Disabilities from ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Must hold a valid teaching certificate. Must be able to pass drug test and criminal background checks.  EOE/M/F

The duties will include education and supervisory responsibilities. The Certified Teacher must hold a valid teaching certificate issued by the AR Dept. of Ed. for Early Childhood Instructional Specialist P-4 or hold a valid Arkansas Teaching Certificate in a related field and an Alternative Licensing Plan (ALP) to complete the necessary certification.  Facility is open all 12 months of the year.

Job Summary:  The Special Education Teacher instructs preschool subjects to developmentally disabled students, adapting teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual needs of students. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following, Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other materials, considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of students.
  • Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
  • Consults with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social worker, and others to develop educational program for student.
  • Develops, models and implements techniques for instruction.
  • Consults with treatment team to develop programs to maximize students' potential.
  • Assists members of the interdisciplinary teams as needed.
  • Insures that Teacher's Aides assesses student's individual progress by implementing goals and objectives on a daily basis.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation and assessments of students' performance
  • Attends initial and ongoing conferences for students on caseload.
  • Must maintain, track, and submit documentation of 60 hours of educational in-service training required by the ADE annually.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises teacher aides. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelors' Degree (B.A.) with a major in Special Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood and Special Education.  Arkansas State Certification requirements must be met.
